Every year in Northern Ireland, we dispose of enough aluminium cans,
which if placed end to end would go around the coast of Ireland 7 times!
It can take between 100 and 500 years for an aluminium can to decompose.
Northern Ireland disposes of around £1 million pounds worth of aluminium cans every year.
Recycling aluminium cans saves 95% of energy used to make a can from raw material.
Recycling an aluminium can will save enough energy to power a Television for 3 hours!
Textile Recycling
Our textile recycling has been a major success in 2007, as we have expanded into the Limavady borough, placing banks in
Limavady, Dungiven, Magilligan and Benone. We now service a whopping 26 textile banks in the Ballymoney, Coleraine and Limavady boroughs, so when recycling your unwanted clothing, look for the Can Can logo!
Please use our clothes banks to donate unwanted clothes as every single penny generated from the donations of clothes is put back into your local charity, helping local people.
Events this year...
This year Can Can Recycling were thrilled to have taken part in the annual Lord Mayor’s Show. Staff, volunteers and can operatives put their glad rags on to help raise awareness of our project.
An educational trip to Bryson House Recycling and Kilcreggan Urban Farm provided further insight into the recycling process beyond Can Can, and also allowed staff, trainees and volunteers to see another project in operation.
We also raised money for the “Jeans for Genes” campaign in October this year, and tried to Denimise the Nation by donating all the proceeds of denim sales in our charity shop, Can Can Bazaar.
Can Can Recycling also took part in Waste Aware Day in Coleraine town centre on the 14th and 15th of September. We were joined by various other local organizations and aimed to make people aware of our project and also highlight the importance of recycling.
